Questions

DOES THE TOOTH NEED TO BE SHAVED DOWN FOR A PROSTHESIS?

Yes, but minimally. Only as much as needed to accommodate the material's thickness. For E-max, it’s just 0.5–1 mm. In some cases, a restoration can be placed without removing the nerve, and we always do this whenever possible.

HOW LONG DOES THE PLACEMENT PROCESS TAKE?

Usually 2–3 visits over a period of 1–3 weeks. Between visits, you will wear a temporary restoration.

HOW LONG DOES A PROSTHESIS LAST?

E-max ceramics and zirconia will last 10–20 years with proper care. Metal-ceramic crowns last 10–15 years. The exact lifespan depends on oral hygiene, chewing loads, and regular check-ups. Once the term expires, the restoration can simply be replaced.

WHICH IS BETTER — A PROSTHESIS OR AN IMPLANT?

If the natural root is healthy, a crown is the best option. If the tooth is completely missing, an implant with a crown is the right solution. The final decision depends on bone condition, adjacent teeth, and your expectations. The doctor will show you both options during the consultation, complete with timelines and costs.

CAN I BE ALLERGIC TO THE MATERIAL?

With zirconia and E-max ceramics — practically no, as they are fully biocompatible materials. Allergic reactions are possible to the metal frame of metal-ceramic crowns (most commonly to nickel). If you have a known sensitivity to metals, let the doctor know, and we will choose a hypoallergenic option.
