Why do I need fluoridation if I brush my teeth with fluoride toothpaste?
Fluoride toothpaste is the foundation of daily care. Professional fluoridation is a procedure using products of significantly higher concentration. It creates a durable protective layer on the teeth that effectively strengthens the enamel and makes it more resistant to caries for a long period.
From what age can fluoridation be done for children?
The procedure can be performed as soon as the first baby teeth have erupted, usually from 2–3 years old. The main condition is that the child can sit calmly in the chair and does not swallow the product. The doctor determines the expediency and chooses the safest method for the child.
How often should fluoridation be performed?
Generally, for effective caries prevention, fluoridation is recommended every 6 months, often immediately after professional hygiene. If you have increased tooth sensitivity, the doctor may advise an individual schedule.
Is this procedure safe for children and pregnant women?
Yes, the procedure is absolutely safe for children, as special products are used in minimal amounts. Fluoridation is also safe for pregnant women because the product acts locally on the teeth and does not enter the body. However, we always recommend consulting with your gynecologist beforehand.
Can fluoride cause an allergic or other adverse effects?
Allergic reactions to fluoride are extremely rare. Adverse effects can only occur if a significant amount of the product is swallowed. During the procedure, the doctor fully controls this by using a small dose and removing residues with a saliva ejector. Therefore, the procedure is safe.
